FAQ
Short answers to common questions about EvidentlySo for Windows.
Getting started
Is EvidentlySo available now?
Not yet. EvidentlySo for Windows is coming, and the installer isn’t ready to download yet. Sign up for updates to hear when it is.
What do I need?
A Windows PC, your Android phone or iPhone, and a free Dropbox account. See Technical requirements for the details and the known limits.
Does it work on a Mac?
No. EvidentlySo runs on Windows PCs only.
What do I pay for?
The 30-Day Pass lets you make unlimited PDFs for 30 days. You buy it on this website, and we email you a code to unlock EvidentlySo. The Monthly Add-on keeps that going month to month after your 30 days, for less than a new pass. It’s offered when you buy your pass and again before your 30 days end. If you only need EvidentlySo now and then, buy a new 30-Day Pass when you need it. See pricing.
How does it work with an Android phone?
EvidentlySo for Windows pairs with your phone through Google Messages for web, the same way you’d text from a computer. You scan a code once with Google Messages on your phone. Add an Android phone
What about iPhone?
You back up your iPhone to your Windows PC with Apple’s free Apple Devices app, and EvidentlySo reads that backup. There is no app to install on the iPhone itself. Add an iPhone
Your messages and privacy
Do you store my messages?
No. EvidentlySo reads your messages on your own PC and saves your PDFs to your own Dropbox, not our servers. You decide who gets the PDFs.
What does EvidentlySo need access to?
Your messages, through Google Messages for web on Android or your iPhone’s backup on your PC, and your Dropbox, to save your PDFs. Messages, names and contact photos are used to make your PDF transcripts.
Does the app send error reports?
Only if you say yes. The first time you open EvidentlySo, it asks, and you can change that anytime in Settings, under Help. A report holds technical details of the error, never your messages, names, phone numbers or files. See Privacy.
Does it work with Google Drive?
Not yet, but it will soon. Google Drive integration is scheduled for November 2026. In the meantime, a free Dropbox account works.
Can I use EvidentlySo without a cloud account?
Not yet, but it will soon. Google Drive integration is scheduled for November 2026. In the meantime, a free Dropbox account works.
Some people would rather keep their files on a USB drive or on the computer itself. If that’s you, we’d like to hear from you. Tell us about it.
Your PDFs
How do I print text messages for court?
EvidentlySo generates a PDF of the conversation you choose, with the sender, date, and time of each message. You can print it or send it to your attorney. See our guide: How to save text messages from your Android phone for court.
Will the court accept these PDFs?
Every court and judge has its own rules, so we can’t promise that. Each PDF shows your messages in order, with dates, times and page numbers. Each page’s footer shows the Transcript ID and a record code, and anyone can check at EvidentlySo.com/Verify that the PDF hasn’t changed since it was generated. Evidence presentation is left to your attorney. Admissibility is determined by the Court.
Are screenshots good enough?
Sometimes, but if we're being honest - screenshots of text messages can be misleading or not be trustworthy as they are easy to crop and often leave out dates, content, context and other foundational information that are often required by the rules of evidence. A PDF from EvidentlySo shows the conversation in order, with dates and times. Ask your attorney what your case needs. See: Screenshots vs. a text message PDF.
How can someone check the PDF?
Anyone can check a PDF at EvidentlySo.com/Verify. The page checks the PDF’s fingerprint (SHA-256) against the one registered when it was generated. A successful verification confirms the PDF hasn’t changed since it was generated. The Verification service never reads or accesses your messages.
Each page's footer also shows the Transcript ID, the page number and a record code (for example "Record code a24ea140b033cca4"). One limit to know: a PDF can only include messages that were on your phone when you made it. Anything deleted before then won't be in it.
Can I choose what goes in a PDF?
Yes. Each PDF holds one conversation, over one unbroken range of dates. Take the whole conversation, or choose where it starts (a date or a message) and where it ends (a date, a message or the latest message). Need another conversation, or a second period? Generate another PDF. Page 1 of every PDF shows who’s in the conversation and the dates it covers. For more info, see: What’s in a PDF
Does it include pictures?
Yes, images in messages or sent as messages are included. So are videos, file attachments, contact cards and voice messages sent through text. In the PDF, each photo appears with its file name, and videos, voice messages, files and contact cards show as boxes. EvidentlySo saves the original pictures and videos to your Dropbox, next to the PDF. You should provide all of the media files in your transcript to your attorney.
Does it include group texts?
Yes. A group text is a conversation of its own, so it gets its own PDF, separate from your texts with any one person in it.
Does EvidentlySo recover deleted messages?
No. EvidentlySo reads what’s on your phone when you make your PDF. Messages deleted before then won’t be in it.
Can I use it for things other than court?
Yes. People use it to keep records for landlords, employers, insurance, or just for themselves. Storing messages from a loved one is a great way to ensure memories of communications survive the passage of time.
Buying and your license
What does “Sold through Link” mean? What’s LINK.COM* EVIDENTLYSO on my statement?
Payments are handled by Link, Stripe’s checkout service. Your invoices and bank statements might say EvidentlySo or “Sold through Link”, or LINK.COM* EVIDENTLYSO.
Can I pay without it showing up on my phone or in my email?
If you need to keep your purchase private, talk to your attorney first. Your attorney may be able to buy EvidentlySo for you and forward you the email with your code. Paying yourself? Pay as a guest with a card (no Link account needed), and use an email address only you can see. Your receipt and your unlock code go to that address, and your card statement shows LINK.COM* EVIDENTLYSO.
How do I cancel the Add-on?
Use the Manage your subscription link in your receipt email. After it ends, your PDFs stay yours. To generate new PDFs, buy a new 30-Day Pass.
What if I get a new phone?
Before you switch, make the PDFs you might need from your old phone. Only messages still on a phone can be read. Then add your new phone in EvidentlySo. Your PDFs stay in your Dropbox.
Can I get a refund?
All sales are final. But if you’re having trouble getting your messages out, contact support and we’ll work with you until you do.
Who makes EvidentlySo?
