What’s in a PDF

Support menu What’s in a PDF

Each PDF holds one conversation, over one unbroken range of dates.

  • Page 1 is a short header: the title, the Transcript ID (like T4250), the participants, the dates covered, the contents, the phone, the time zone, and when the PDF was generated.
  • The messages start on page 2, in order. Each shows the sender’s name and number, the date and time, and a message number (like MSG-001) to cite.
  • Photos appear where they were sent, with their file name. A video shows as a still with a play mark and its length.
  • Voice messages, files and contact cards show as boxes where they were sent.
  • When a photo or video can’t be shown, a box says “Photo not available” or “Video not available”.
  • The footer on every page says “Check this file at EvidentlySo.com/Verify” and shows the Transcript ID and page number (like “T4250 · Page 2 of 9”) and a record code.
  • Anyone can check that the PDF hasn’t changed at EvidentlySo.com/Verify. How checking a PDF works

Android and iPhone

Android’s message storage doesn’t keep reactions, replies, edits, unsent messages, group changes (people added or leaving, a new group name) or link previews, so PDFs from an Android phone don’t show them. A reaction that was sent as an ordinary text, like “Liked …”, shows as a message.

Reactions, replies and edits aren’t shown yet. They’re planned for iPhone messages read with the desktop app.

Keeping your PDF verifiable

Share copies of the PDF EvidentlySo generated, and don’t save over it. Saving it again or printing it makes a new file, and a new file won’t match at EvidentlySo.com/Verify.

  • These keep an exact copy: emailing it, downloading it, or saving it to a cloud storage folder.
  • These make a new file: pressing Save in a PDF app (even with no edits), adding highlights, comments or signatures, “Print to PDF”, or combining it with other files.
  • If a PDF app asks “Save changes?”, tap Don’t save.

Keep one untouched copy and share copies of it.
