This page is for people who downloaded the EvidentlySo Android app from our website.

Stuck on a phone setting? Find the screen you’re seeing below.

Text access is off

Android can turn text access off by itself, for example for an app you haven’t used for a few months. Here’s how to turn it back on.

Turn it back on

  1. In EvidentlySo, tap Turn on text access. If Android shows its own box, tap Allow and you’re done. Otherwise Android’s App info page opens.

  2. Tap Permissions.

  3. Tap SMS.

  4. Tap Allow, then come back to EvidentlySo. It checks again by itself.

You can also open it from EvidentlySo’s Settings › Phone access › Text access, or from your phone’s Settings › Apps › EvidentlySo (on some phones, Settings › Apps › See all apps › EvidentlySo). Then do steps 2 to 4.

If Android says “Restricted setting”

Android 13 and newer may block step 4: you see a box called Restricted setting, or Allow is grayed out.

  1. Go back to EvidentlySo’s App info page and tap ⋮ (top right).

  2. Tap Allow restricted settings. Confirm with your PIN, pattern or fingerprint.

  3. Do steps 2 to 4 again: Permissions › SMS › Allow.

No ⋮ on the App info page? It usually appears only after Android has shown the Restricted setting box once. Try steps 2 to 4 first.

If EvidentlySo asks to be your texting app

Some chats are encrypted (RCS). Android shows them only to your default texting app. To include them, EvidentlySo needs to become your default texting app for a very short time - typically less than 30 seconds.

  1. When EvidentlySo asks, tap Continue.

  2. In Android’s box, tap EvidentlySo, then Set as default.

  3. Wait while your encrypted chats are added. The steps tick as they finish. Don’t close EvidentlySo.

  4. On Last step: Switch back to Messages, tap Open Messages.

  5. If Messages shows Set default SMS app, tap it.

  6. In Android’s box, tap Messages, then Set as default.

  7. Come back to EvidentlySo. When it shows Done: Messages is your texting app again, tap Continue.

Use a different texting app? In that app, look for Set as default.

If EvidentlySo stops before you switch back, it shows Switch back to Messages first. Do those steps, then try again.

If you skip this, some chat messages may be missing, and the PDF says so.
