Phone requirements

EvidentlySo runs on Android phones. Here’s what you need, and what it can’t do yet. We’ll update this page as testing continues.

[REVIEW: wording for this page]

What you need

  • An Android phone with Android 7.0 or newer.
  • A Dropbox account. A free one is fine if you have room. Google Drive isn’t supported yet.
  • Free space on your phone while a capture is being saved. A big conversation with lots of photos can need a few GB. [may change]
  • Wi-Fi, for big saves. It’s faster and doesn’t use your data plan.

iPhone: coming soon

We’re starting with Android. iPhone support is on the way. For now, EvidentlySo works on Android phones only.

Known limits

  • Encrypted chat messages on Android 16 and newer. Google Messages encrypts most chats between people who both use it (chat messages, also called RCS). On Android 16 and newer, Android lets only your main texting app read those encrypted chats. So on these phones, some chat messages may be missing from a capture for now. We’re working on it.
  • Some sent chat messages are never saved on the phone. Because of a known Google problem, Google Messages sometimes doesn’t save chat messages you send in the phone’s message storage. No app can capture a message the phone never saved.
  • Deleted messages. A capture has what’s on your phone when you run it. Messages deleted before then won’t be in it.
